Why Retire to the Philippines
Why, you say?
Because everything we need for our retirement is over there!
• the cost of living is amazingly affordable
• the climate is mild (not too hot/not too cold)
• living is “safe and secure” (like anywhere in the world)
• the people speak English, no need to learn a new language
• people are friendly, hospitable, warm and somewhat “Westernized”
• majority of the people are Christian, so there are no dietary laws to observe
• the country is lovely and the night life in the city is alive
• so many more other reasons! This little country seems to be the best place for retirement!
BORACAY BEACH RESORT
Oh, My God, I can’t believe what I am seeing! You will be amazed at the pictures that I will show you today! It’s like a paradise island in the Philippines!
This may be the perfect place for us to retire, except maybe for the costs of living here which would probably be higher than normal in the Philippines! It’s really a retiree’s paradise on earth! Go ahead and judge for yourself!
These are my findings:
Boracay Island and its beaches have received awards numerous times. Boracay was awarded in the “Travelers’ Choice 2011” by TripAdvisor as the second best beach (out of 25) in the world.
Boracay made a debut appearance on the Top 10 Islands list in the Travel + Leisure travel magazine World’s Best Awards 2011.

White ripples of sand formed in the pristine waters as small sailboats glided peacefully in the horizon. The water is beautiful with many different shades of blue colored like a pastel painting. Seeeing that it can be easily understood why Boracay Island was known as the “Jewel of the Philippines”. This pearl among tropical islands was well-guarded secret paradise, until 1970s. From around that time Boracay island slowly graduated from a private travellers hangout to a favourite tourist destination in the Philippines and place with the best beach in the world.
Boracay is a tropical island in the Philippines, an hour flight from Manila. The island is approximately seven kilometers long, dog-bone shaped with the narrowest spot being less than one kilometer wide. Island is famous for its powder-fine white sand, clear warm water and nice, pleasant weather all year round.
Take a boat trip around the island and you’ll discover many beautiful beaches. Boracay’s two primary tourism beaches, White Beach and Bulabog Beach, are located on opposite sides of the island’s narrow central area. White Beach faces westwards, it’s 4km long and can be crowded. Skimboarding has come to Boracay in a big way. Skimboarding is a clean and cheap sport, and has become popular along White Beach. The locals teach visitors the basics. A large variety of gourmet restaurants with food from many cultures are all within walking distance this magnificant white beach. Fine French cuisine, swiss food, several true Italian restaurants and wooded oven pizzerias, local Philippine food, sea food, Chinese and Thai food, Korean and many other food specialties. Bulabog Beach faces eastwards and presents the best kiteboarding and watersport beach in Asia, due to the unique wave breaking reefs and ideal wind situations. There are numerous competitions and events here as well. It is also less developed and quieter than White Beach. Visit Kingfisher’s Farm where you can fish for your lunch and the staff will grill up your catch. Diving is extremely popular around Boracay. The waters surrounding Boracay have excellent sites for beginners and experienced divers alike. The waters are packed with vibrant fish and reefs, wreck sites, caves and canyons. There are 30+ great dive sites within 30 minutes of Boracay.
On the north there is also the beautiful and undeveloped Puka Shell Beach which is an image of what most people expect on a tropical island: white sand, azure water, and relatively empty. This is where locals gather the small puka shells for some of the jewelry that is sold on the island. While here you can visit Bat Caves home to thousands of giant fruit bats. At twilight, thousands emerge from these caves and fly over White Beach in search of fruit on Boracay and other surrounding islands.

Shuttered in from the rest of the island by flamboyant greens and great hills, the Newcoast Beach at Boracay’s edge remains one of the best-kept secrets of Boracay where the old ways of enjoying the island are pretty much left untouched. The Dead Forest, a scenic spot believed to be populated by elemental spirits, is likewise located within the boundaries of village Manoc-Manoc. A product of ecological disturbance, the Dead Forest, also known as the Sunken Forest was created when a dam that kept off the saltwater broke down, destroying the swamp and killing off the mangroves that grew in it. With dead tree trunks sticking out of stagnant water, the Dead Forest presents a highly romantic scene surrounded by old folk tales about ghosts and goblins. Local folk believe supernatural occurrences take place here, particularly on full moon nights.
Boracay is a vacationer’s paradise, with luxury 5-star hotels, through traditional bungalows; something for anyone’s budget and taste. Choose from native, so-called nipa huts (cottage made of wood, bamboo and Nipa palm leaves, modern and spacious cottages, all kind vacation houses along the beach and on hilltops overlooking the sea, and modern resorts and hotels with swimming pools and spas. Boracay is above else famous for its nightlife, with pubs and bars of all kinds that are jumping until very late at night. If you are looking for perfect place to spend your honeymoon – look no further. The romantic scenery will surround you on every step you make on Boracay island.

High Season starts in October and ends in May, when the wind blows out to sea, leaving the beach pristine clean and generally calm.
Open your eyes and heart and enjoy the natural scenery of this tropical pearl among Pacific islands. Perfect place to relax and enjoy life.
Getting to Boracay is easy. Fly to the Philippine capital, Manila, then hop on a domestic plane to Caticlan Airport. Once in Caticlan, Aklan, take a five-minute ferry ride across the channel to Boracay.
In Boracay, the main indicator of the switch between the NorthEast and SouthWest seasonal patterns is the switch in wind direction. In most years this transition is abrupt and occurs overnight. In some years there is a period of perhaps a week or two where the wind will switch between NorthEast and SouthWest patterns several times before settling into the pattern for the new season. As a general rule of thumb, Boracay will be in the NorthEast weather pattern from sometime in September or October to sometime in May or June and in the SouthWest weather pattern for the remainder of the year. These dates can vary in individual years, though.
Daytime temperatures on Boracay generally range from 77-90°F from the beginning of the NorthEast Wind season into February or March, and increase to the 82-100°F range with the onset of the SouthWest Wind season. Tropical Storms can impact Boracay most likely during the SouthWest season when the temperature can be lower than 68°F.
Partly because of its wind and weather patterns, tourism in Boracay is at its peak during North East Wind season. During the NorthEast Wind, the prevailing wind blows from the east. Boracay’s main tourism area, White Beach, is on the western side of the island and is sheltered from the wind. During the NorthEast Wind season, the water off White Beach is often glassy-smooth. On the eastern side of the island, hills on the northern and southern ends of the island channel the NorthEast season wind from the east onshore, onto Bulabog Beach in the central part of the island’s eastern side. This makes the reef-protected waters off that beach ideal for windsurfing and kiteboarding and kitesurfing.
Leisure activities
Leisure activities available on or near Boracay include scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kiteboarding, cliff diving, and beach relaxation.
Boracay is the site of a world-class 18-hole par 72 golf course designed by Graham Marsh. Fairways & Bluewater Golf Resort Boracay is on the beautiful island holiday destination of Boracay.

The golf course is nestled in the hills with absolutely stunning ocean views, the water here is incredibly clear that laps onto the beach with its powdery white sand. The golf course is immaculate, the resort is 5 star as is the golf!
Someone once remarked that walking through the gate of the Fairways and Bluewater Boracay Club was like walking into a postcard paradise!
Actually, I couldn’t agree more. This 18 hole Par 72 golf course was designed by Graham Marsh and keeping true to Graham Marsh’s views of what an ideal golf course should be, this 6034-yard golf course is sculptured with every hole to give every player a sporting chance.
The fairways are dominated by gentle mounds and dotted with bunkers which test the skills of the experienced golfer and yet giving the high handicapper a fair and rewarding game.
In addition, as of 2010, Boracay has in excess of 350 beach resorts offering more than 2,000 rooms ranging in quality from five-star to budget accommodations, so tourists are sure to find whatever they are looking for.
In addition, Boracay offers a wide range of restaurants, bars, pubs, and nightclubs.
